How to get rid of acne- Best acne products to try
I am not a dermatologist, a skin therapist or an expert in skin treatment and care and what works for me may not work for you.
Many people are faced with the problem of getting rid of acne and most times it seems like they are there to stay. Other times, no matter what you do, they tend to come back after a while. The skin, especially the face, upper back and chest, is very sensitive. Certain habits or products make the skin react. It’s like a militia. When you attack it with the wrong things it retaliates, and when it does, just like the militias, the results are not good.
So, how do you get rid of your acne and avoid it from coming back? I am going to share a few methods that have really worked for me. I am not one to have acne but once in a while it forces it’s way into my room without even knocking. If you have heavy acne, I advise that you see a dermatologist.
Salicylic acid is found in many over-the-counter drugs for pimple preparation. Aspirin contains salicylic acid. Crush Aspirin and add a tablespoon of water and honey( optional) to make a thick paste. Apply this paste and leave it for a few hours or overnight. Visit How to get rid of acne | aspirin treatment to view the video of how to go about it
Use sulfur containing clay mask
I have been using the Hollywood style clay mask and I have never really had any problems with it. The secret behind an effective mask is that contrary to leaving it to dry completely, you should wipe it off using a warm towel before it completely dries off. If you let it dry completely, it dries your skin and taking it off is a little harsh on the skin. You also should apply the mask on a clean face.
Always use sunscreen everyday
I always use a little bit of my moisturizer mixed with sunscreen(Nivea) on my face and with time I have seen an improvement. My face is rewarding me with smoothness. UV rays are harmful to your skin. You should know that the UV rays cause spots and premature aging. According to my research, sunscreen with an SPF of 30 is advisable because after 30, there is decreased marginal returns. You should also use sunscreen on your entire body especially when you know you are going out into the sun. Also, wear hats or stay in the shade. You want your whole body looking good.
Avoid toothpaste, lemon and baking soda treatments
Toothpaste, lemons, baking soda, and salt are touted as common convention to treat acne or improve the appearance of discoloration but they will damage skin instead. Avoid using any of these ingredients. Unless you know how to use them( that is rarely), just stay away from them.
Ensure that your skin is moisturized
There was a time I thought that I had oily face, and to avoid being too oily, I actually thought that not moisturizing my face would reduce the oiliness. Of course it never worked because I would get break outs every now and then. My face has gone from oily to almost normal by religiously moisturizing every time I wash my face. I found a moisturizer that works for me too then stuck to it( Cussons baby oil). Not moisturizing causes your skin to produce sebum to compensate when your skin is dry. In addition, the oil will still be produced. This leads to clogging of pores, therefore, pimples.
The hot steam and hot water exfoliation method.
Growing up with sisters, I learnt that steaming is good for those with pimples and black heads. My research proved this to be right because steam softens the sebum. Wash face, steam and then splash cold water on face to close pores, then moisturize. Alternatively, dip a towel in warm( almost hot) and use it as an exfoliator. Then, splash using cold water to close pores and then moisturize.
As I said earlier, what works for me may not work for you. Just find out what works for you and stick by it. Remember, these methods alone cannot guarantee a flawless glowing skin that you want. You should also eat your fruits and vegetables, exercise, drink lots of water, use oil free make-up, wash your fabrics, avoid touching your face, wash your face twice a day, wash your make-up brushes, relax and avoid stress, de-worm once in a while, avoid fatty foods… the list is endless.
