Kenya is a beautiful country with beautiful destinations. And your bucket list should have Gaketha Elephant Maternity in it. Situated in the Imenti Forest, Gaketha Elephant Maternity gives you an experience like no other. It gives you the Maasai Mara wildebeest migration vibe, only that it is the elephants moving to a certain spot in the forest just to give birth. The movements occur mostly in December and July every year. Apart from that, you get to visit Solomon’s caves which was the Mau Mau armory and the Urumandi Nithi River footbridge. I used to hear stories as a child that you can not use the bridge if you are unclean and if an unclean person used the bridge, he or she would fall into the river. Maybe they were just stories to scare us as children, but who knows!

2. NGARE NDARE FOREST IN NANYUKI

3. THE CHALBI DESERT IN TURKANA

The Chalbi Desert is located in Northern Kenya near the Ethiopian border to the east of Lake Turkana and contains North Horr. Chalbi in Gabbra language means bare and salty. Chalbi Desert is the hottest most arid region in Kenya. Despite the dry and arid conditions, you might spot ostriches, oryx or grevy’s Zebras. Sometimes, hyenas can be spotted too. Chalbi desert has a catch. There is a gorgeous area of oases at the northern edge of the desert with groves of palm trees that attract the sand grouse and other birds including the guinea fowls. The oases are also used as water sources for their camels by the Gabbra people.

The Brandy Bus is a Vintage double decker bus which has been renovated into a beautiful home. The home is Airbnb which means that you have to find a way to get food. But not to worry because the home is fully equipped with everything to make your stay very comfortable. There is a fully functional kitchen and if you are not one to cook, there are restaurants nearby which also do deliveries within 30 minutes. Also, there are menus from which you can choose at The Brandy Bus.

5. ALI BARBOUR'S CAVE RESTAURANT IN DIANI, UKUNDA

This place is in my bucket list 2019. It is basically fascinating because of the fact that it is a cave restaurant. It is named after the legendary Ali Baba and 40 thieves. The coral cave is thought to be approximately 180 000 years old with depths of 10 meters below ground level. The cave  is dimly candle-lit and it opens up to the sky through natural holes in the cave’s roof. The restaurant serves seafood and international cuisine. This is a perfect spot for a romantic dinner. Valentine day is around the corner.

Whether it is somewhere in the wilderness, the desert, by the beach or in the city, I should point out that Kenya is very beautiful and this is just a tiny fraction of the many beautiful places in the country. So, be sure to travel and explore.

See you on Monday
